| Now, this is what I'm talking about. I'm relatively tech savvy, but this is more my area of expertise. Do we have any musicians in here?
If so, let's hear some of your stuff. Here's mine. Mostly acoustic. http://www.myspace.com/forgetbuddha1988

| I listen to a lot but I don't create it. Working class kids don't tend to be musical | |

Cool. I meant links to your music, lol, but pics are cool too. What kind of music do you play?

Understandable. I know when I was working full-time I didn't have time for it. Still hard while going to school full-time, but there's a little more flexibility, thankfully.

| I don't have that much time to make music because I'm a full time student now. :/ I'll upload some later. | |

| I hear you, neckbeard. It's a shame, but hopefully it leads to you eventually being able to do what you love most. Otherwise, what's the point, right? Looking forward to that, myself. | |

| I just do a little finger picking. I sat down with my classical today. Was gonna do a YouTube vid and post here. I haven't played in too long and I have a slight hangover. My hand was shaking so bad. I just put the damn thing back in the case. | |

haha, yeah, definitely something you gotta keep doing if you wanna keep it. I hate when I haven't played in a while and when I pick my guitar up my fingers are all stiff. Worst feeling in the world, lol.

Any advice? (or rep? ) lol, begging for rep? Fair enough. I'm strictly a wood and metal kind of guy, but I'd like to do some work with midi to kind of get me through the digital music doorway. Just gotta get it set up.

If you have a computer with a decent sound card or cpu, find a daw, find a guide to set up the daw, then make music. - clutch wrote:

| Yeah, I actually use Reaper and Ableton Live 7. Love Reaper so far. I have Cubase LE4 and an old Pro Tools, but I don't really like them. Did you use a MIDI keyboard? | |

| My cheap MIDI keyboard just broke. I use FL Studio because I was introduced to it years ago by some family friends. If you have time to spend learning it, it's great, but the interface is a bit too modular to find things easily at ALL at first. I'm going to buy an Akai Pro LPK25 at some point.

| I dunno, can you count two years at guitar being "a musician"?
I play a lot of heavy metal, hard rock, all that good stuff. I don't necessarily learn at a pace anyone would expect me to cause I just goof around. I can tell I'm progressing, but I know that, later down the road, I will eventually have to start getting serious about learning the right way. The reason why I don't like learning in a practical manner ("Okay, Bobby, let's learn some scales") is because I get easily annoyed when people tell me to play a certain way or hold my hands to show me.
But yeah, I can say I have some experience under my belt. I don't know anything about scales or music theory, but I know it's something I'll eventually learn. I'd like to learn it now, but school's a bitch, ya know?

I'd like to learn it now, but school's a bitch, ya know? That's totally understandable, neckbeard. I've been in the same position, and being a guitarist is certainly a good step to becoming a musician. If you have questions regarding theory, feel free to post over on my other thread. Being that we seem to learn the same way, I think I could help you to better understand theory whenever you're interested.

| Whoops, sorry for the delay. Been meaning to reply.. Do you know how to make it so that I can play my midi keyboard through Reason while I have another program in front of it? It used to work just fine; I'd surf the web while jammin' out but now if I click any other window Reason cuts out :/ and if I were listening to a song it just freezes, then continues once I click on it.. | |
